Tattoo FAQ's

What should I do before treatment?
Make sure the treatment area (tattoo) stays out of the sun, solarium or any form of tanning including lotions.  Sun exposure may lead to complications or side effects.  Our expert technician will advise you during your consultation of what to do and what not to do.

What should I expect during the treatment?
Most treatments are quick, much quicker than getting a tattoo.  The treatment is slightly more uncomfortable than getting a tattoo, but you are able to use topical numbing creams to help with comfort levels which need to be applied approximately an hour before treatment.

How many treatments do I require?
This is the million dollar question.  It’s very hard to predict how many treatments you will require as a lot of factors must be taken into consideration, being

  • Amount of ink
  • Colour of ink (black and grey shading have quicker results)
  • Type of ink (there are over 100 different inks being used worldwide and the technician has no knowledge of what ink your tattoo is)
  • Depth of ink
  • Thickness of ink
  • Colour of your skin
  • Condition of the skin (eg  scarring)
  • Amateur or professional tattoo
  • Where the tattoo is located on the body

Some tattoos are removed within three treatments and others can take as many as 20 treatments.  Occasionally, a tattoo with very little ink can be removed in a single session.
Tattoos which have fine line work, grey/black shading and contain the least amount of ink usually are the easiest to remove.  Areas which have blocks of black ink (heavy ink) often take more treatments. Tattoos on the face and neck often are easier to remove than say tattoos on the hands and feet.  Your technician will assess your particular tattoo during the consultation.

How frequent are the treatments?
Given that it takes the body about four weeks to start breaking down the ink and then the body’s lymphatic system has to dispose of it, we recommend at least six weeks between treatments.

How long after getting a tattoo can I get it removed?
You have to wait for the tattoo to completely heal before you can begin to remove it.  Although the tattoo may seem to be healed within a couple of weeks it still may be healing in the deeper layers of skin which is not visible so we recommend to wait a minimum of six weeks.

Can I only get part of my tattoo removed?
Yes you can.  The laser beam can be made very small so you can pinpoint the area you want to remove.  If that tattoo is touching another tattoo you don’t wish to remove there may be a chance that a very minimal amount will also be removed.  If this does occur you can retouch the tattoo after the removal treatment is completed.

What can I expect after treatment?
You may get pinpoint bleeding or blisters forming.  We use antiseptic cream right after the treatment and cover the area.  Once treatment is completed you should not feel any pain.

What do I do after treatment?
We recommend you have no sun exposure in the treatment area.  We also recommend that you limit the amount of exercise as warming the body up may cause the area to blister.

Can I get another tattoo in the area?
Yes.  A lot of people have their original tattoo removed so they can put another tattoo in its place.  It normally takes less sessions if people are after fading as opposed to total tattoo removal.
